University pathway: Malaysia to Japan
Malaysia signed 31 education MoUs with Japanese universities at Expo 2025 Osaka alone — more bilateral activity in one week than most countries see in a decade. MJIIT at UTM already produces graduates who feed directly into Japanese graduate schools. Here is how the pathway works.
Language School Path
6–18 months at a Japanese language school in Japan, then sit the EJU and apply directly to university. Most common route for self-funded students. April intake preferred; October intake available at select schools.
MEXT Scholarship
Full-ride Japanese government scholarship. Six categories are available to Malaysians — Research Students and Undergraduates are most common. Monthly stipend plus full tuition waiver and return airfare. Apply April–May via the Japanese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
University Partnership
Via your Malaysian university MOU with a Japanese partner. MJIIT graduates have the strongest pipeline. UM, UUM, UPM, and UMK all have active exchange agreements. Exchange students often qualify for JASSO exchange scholarships.
