How to Verify a DoFE-Licensed Agency

1
Ask for the license number
Ask the agency to show you their DoFE license number in writing. A legitimate agency will have a format like "DoFE/Lic/XXXX" on official documents or letterhead.
2
Check the official DoFE list
Go to dofe.gov.np → click "Licensed Agencies" or "सूची हेर्नुहोस्" → search by agency name or license number. The list is publicly available — no login needed.
3
Check for suspension notices
DoFE also publishes a list of suspended or blacklisted agencies. Search for the agency name in the suspended list before paying anything.
4
Confirm Japan-specific authorization
For SSW Japan hiring, the sending organization must be registered with both DoFE and Japan's relevant authority. Ask the agency to confirm which Japanese company or SSW sending organization they work with.

💡
Yamada Hack

Never let an agency rush you. Take a photo of every document you sign. Verify the agency's license number yourself at dofe.gov.np before handing over ANY money. If the agency objects to you checking, that itself is a red flag.

Real Example: How Anita Avoided a Scam

Anita from Pokhara was approached by an agency promising SSW care work (介護) in Japan for NPR 850,000 total, cash only.

🔍

She asked for the agency's DoFE license number. The agent said "we're in the process of renewing" — a classic delay tactic.

She checked the DoFE website herself. The agency was NOT on the licensed list.

She declined, reported the agency to DoFE's online complaint portal, and moved on to a verified agency.

💡

Total time checking: 15 minutes. Money saved: NPR 850,000.
